(Anthonios, Antonio, Anton, Antoni, Antoine, Antony) [1195-1231] was a Franciscan missionary, theologian, popular preacher, and indefatigable defender of the poor, those deeply in debt, and prisoners. Popular tradition has him patron of those who have lost precious possessions. He is also patron of travelers, of harvests, of barren women, of the poor and of Portugal, where he was born. His feast is June 13.
