(Augustin, Augustino) [354-430], bishop of Hippo in North Africa. A native of Africa and a convert to Christianity, he became its foremost theologian. His autobiography is a classic of literature. The cause of much anguish to his mother during his youth, St. Augustine is a suitable patron for distraught parents and their wayward children. He is also patron of brewers, printers and theologians. His feast is August 28.
