(Ines, Inez, Ynez) [died c. 350], having been denounced as a Christian during the persecution by the Emperor Diocletian, withstood her depraved prosecutors with such constancy and equanimity that her person and martyrdom have been venerated since the fourth century. St. Agnes is patron of young girls and also of women threatened by gross bodily insult or rape. Her feast is January 21.
