(Carlos, Carlo, Carl, Karl) [1538-1584], Archbishop of Milan & Papal Secretary of State, played an important part in the final sessions of the Council of Trent. He founded the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine and began Sunday Schools to educate the people, especially children, in their faith. He founded seminaries and insisted on the dignity of liturgical services. He had a great compassion for the poor. He is shown with the Cardinal's Hat, holding the Church. He is Patron Saint of the Arts, Learning, catechists and seminarians. His feast is November 4.
