His principal study was the Bible but he is called the Father of English History for his book, The Ecclesiastical History of the English People. He popularized dating the modern calendar from the incarnation of Christ. St. Bede is a Doctor of the Church, archetype of the monk and model of the scholar. He is shown writing at his desk. His symbols are a book, a pen and a jug. His feast is May 25.
